The Lord is My Shepherd...

This song (click "This song" to go to the Youtube video) ministers to my heart so much... simply the words to Psalm 23 and prophetic worship birthed from it... but listening to it and receiving it, I realized today what it is to speak that passage over myself, over my family, over my life. I have had Psalm 23:1-6 memorized since I was probably 5, but it is not just poetic, soothing words. It is a powerful declaration, and in believing it we are believing against so many of the enemy's lies.

The Lord is my Shepherd... I will believe that God, the Creator of the universe, takes time to lead me. He comes calling for me, caring about where I am and where I will go from here. He leads me intentionally, diligently.

...I shall not be in want... God is my provider... He has given me everything I could ever need when He gave me salvation in Jesus Christ - He has put the fullness of Himself inside of me. I shall not be in want of anything!

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters, he restores my soul... He is the strength of my heart, the joy of the Lord is my strength. In the middle of my mess, I can still declare that he leads me beside still waters. There is peace that passes understanding.

He guides me in paths of righteousness, for His name's sake... He invites me to be His daughter for His glory...

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff they comfort me... The enemy has no foothold here. He has no authority. I am a daughter of the King, I will live in my inheritance. Fear and all things of the enemy are overcome in the name of Jesus, because He is in this place. His is the power, His is the glory, His is the authority in my heart and in my life.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows... The Lord will supply the need, He gives me more than enough. When the enemy surrounds, the Lord will come in bringing more goodness and provision than I could have imagined.

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my like, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever... I am a daughter of God; goodness and love are my DNA, and the Kingdom and eternity with Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit is my future and my inheritance!

A seal upon my heart...

Pre -serve: to keep alive or in existence; make lasting. One of the most rewarding experiences I've had this summer is learning to can. Thanks to the advice of my Mom and numerous Internet articles, we have different kinds of jam, salsa made from our garden-grown tomatoes, canned peaches, and soon to be spaghetti sauce in our pantry. It's a simultaneously simple yet lengthy process to preserve food. There are steps to be taken to ensure the safety of things, and steps to ensure the taste. My list-making, task-oriented personality loves it. But after peeling and coring a certain amount of tomatoes, your feet do hurt and your hands do get tired. Just reach out and take it already...

I have become determined this week to start working out again. I'm doing a kind of Crossfit -at-home kind of thing ( Crossfit is all the rage here in Charlotte...) and thus far, in all two days I have been doing the workouts, it is kicking my booty. But I kind of like hurting as I climb stairs or sit down in my car...when I know I deserve to hurt. There's nothing like hurting when you made the choice to hurt. Last night while reading I was struck by a scripture that convicted me even more in my determination to exercise - 2 Timothy 1:7 says, For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline . If I'm in the Spirit, self-discipline is something that He gives me. It's handed out to me - and I have to claim it.
