Jehovah Jireh...
A few months ago Dan and I were having dinner with an amazing brother in the Lord. During our time together, I said to him, "I don't know why, but lately I just really want personal testimonies of God's provision. I've lived relatively comfortably all my life. I want to be a person who has those testimonies of how God provides." Our friend replied with a smile, "Be careful what you ask for..." And, I am seeing now that he was right in his warning. :)
Dan and I moved to Tennessee with, what we thought, was a well laid-out plan. We had all of our ducks in a row, and knew - if not exactly - then approximately what the next year would hold. However, we have been met with many obstacles in the last two months. I won't name them all because that's not what this post is for... but suffice it to say that our so-thought well laid plans have turned out to be not so sturdy. In a series of events that we have no control over, "plans" have changed in many areas of our lives.
I have laughed and shook my head so many times when I remember my words to our friend Jon. Three months ago I wanted tangible evidence of God's provision in my life...and He is liberally giving it to me. Never before in my life have I seen so proven the Word when it says, The thief comes to steal, kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. (Jn 10:10) The enemy tries so hard to discourage, steal our joy, and press down our hearts. But Jesus breaths more life.
Our God is, in every way, Jehovah Jireh. His name not only means The Lord Who Provides - it also means The Lord Who Sees or The Lord Who Will See To It. The Lord who sees my needs as they are, and will bring fulfillment to every one of them. For Abraham, that provision came in the form of supplying a ram to be sacrificed, so he could remove his son from the altar (Gen 22:12-14). For me, it may mean food, finances, clothing, health. Or it may mean strength, and grace, and joy, and patience. It may mean a fresh word, a deeper fire in my heart, or a new outpouring of the Spirit in my life. Whatever my need may be, there is so much power to be found in believing that the Lord will provide for it, out of His deep love for me. (Matt 6:25-34, Rom 8:32)
He may not always provide exactly when we expect Him to. And when He does provide, the provision might not look exactly like we expected it to look. We are learning those lessons, too. But beginning to trust that, regardless of when it happens and how it looks, He will provide - and then seeing Him do it - makes me love Him all the more.
