Sweet summertime...

I can't believe it's been almost a month since I last wrote. This summer is flying by... For Dan and I it has been full of more projects around the house and garage, me planning for the school year at Peachtree, and trying to find time for the soul-energizing activities that we moved to Tennessee for. We have loved our chances for a few afternoon wadings in the creek on my parents property, and we have been finding more time to dive into our common passion for worship. It is such a joy to have a spouse whose heart resonates with the yearnings and loves of your own. Truly.

I have been trying to be more intentional in planning our meals this summer. I finally understand the responsibility my mom has always felt for feeding our family as I was growing up. There is such a call in my heart lately to feed my husband well, and any children that may be in the Lord's plan. So recently I have been baking whole wheat bread, and trying to veer away from processed junk food. Chicken salad with yogurt instead of mayonnaise has proven one of Dan's "healthy" favorites, surprisingly enough. It always makes me extremely happy when his taste buds approve of one of my healthy offerings. :)

Our garden has produced quite well for our first effort, I think. We have tons of frozen zucchini, squash, and peppers. Tuesday evening I canned my first batch of salsa from our tomatoes. I'm hoping we'll have enough for one more batch before the summer's over. Cantaloupe and watermelon are still on the vines. Can't wait til they start coming in - yummy! Gardening is work, but the fruits of our labor are so worth it. We are already making plans for how to do it more efficiently next year.

Last week I was part of another summer day camp at Peachtree Learning Center. I can't wait for the school year to begin so I can be there on a weekly basis. I am so honored and blessed to be part of a ministry where Kingdom principles are at the heart and core, and the Lord is so very invited to invade and influence the hearts and hands of the staff, the parents, and the children who come through the doors. It's hard for me to express how excited and thankful I am for the Lord bringing us back at just the right time for me to be involved at Peachtree...but suffice it to say that I think His timing is spectacular!

Praising God for a full summer, in every sense of the word - full of opportunities, challenges, blessings and un-asked-for grace in unexpected situations. Praising Him for provision, mercy, and grace, every single day. And praising Him for the "little things" - like swimming holes at the creek, sweet tea, and cold watermelon. ;) Drink deeply of Him this July!
