Random Sunday ramblings...
Happiness is...mastering the mocha at home.
For some...this is a small thing. For me (an admitting coffee-house junkie) it is a long-sought destination. I like *strong* candy coffee - girly coffee with a kick - that has bold espresso flavor, with a good amount of the sweet stuff, too. So for my taste buds, this victory today was cause for much celebration.
Here's the recipe I used, for anyone interested. I tweaked a few different recipes I found online, and what I ended up with tastes comparable to Starbucks - better, actually, considering that I still have an extra $4 in my pocket...
- Prepare strong coffee (preferably espresso shots in an espresso machine or french pressed...but you can also do a small pot of STRONG espresso roast, drip style. The stronger, the better...)
- While coffee is brewing, in a saucepan, combine 1 tsp cocoa, 2 tsp sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla, and a pinch of salt. Stir together - do NOT heat, yet.
- Microwave 1/4 cup water until boiling (about 1 minute). Pour hot water over cocoa mixture and stir to melt sugar. Add 1 cup milk and stir.
- Heat at medium heat until the chocolatey milk mixture is hot.
- Fill glass/mug/coffee cup 1/2 full with chocolatey-milky-goodness, and the rest of the way with coffee. I actually prefer 1/3 chocolatey-milky-goodness, and 2/3 coffee...but whatever floats your boat. Stir and enjoy!
So much better than all my previous attempts with chocolate syrup, chocolate milk mix, hot chocolate mix...this is seriously delicious and worth the time to heat the mocha ingredients on the stove.
In other news...school starts for me next week! I am so excited to be venturing into the world of teaching on a regular basis. Doing something I love for work is new territory for me. I can't wait to see what the Lord is going to do this year at Peachtree Learning Center. I have a feeling He has alot in store for the kids, the parents, and the staff.
Been spending time in Romans lately, and discovering again just exactly what God has to say about me - so many truths that jump out and go for my heart. Something I've been trying to practice more lately in my times in the Word is writing down the truths I find - what the Lord has said and proclaimed about me - and then taking those same truths and declaring them out loud over my life, and over our household. It's amazing what power there is in the declaration of God's Word. Here are a few declarations to grab onto from the last part of Romans 8...
I love God, and He is working for my good in all things (8:28)
I was predestined to be conformed to the likeness of Jesus (8:29)
God is for me (8:31)
Jesus Himself is at the right hand of God, interceding for me (8:34)
Trouble can't separate me from the love of God
Hardship can't separate me from the love of God
Persecution can't separate me from the love of God
Famine can't separate me from the love of God
Famine can't separate me from the love of God
Nakedness can't separate me from the love of God
Danger can't separate me from the love of God
The sword can't separate me from the love of God
Death can't separate me from the love of God
Life can't separate me from the love of God
Angels can't separate me from the love of God
Demons can't separate me from the love of God
The present can't separate me from the love of God
The future can't separate me from the love of God
No powers can separate me from the love of God
Height can't separate me from the love of God
Depth can't separate me from the love of God
Nothing in all creation can separate me from the love of God. (8:35-39)
I will not just "hang in there" - I am MORE than a conquerer through Jesus Christ (8:37)
There is so much power in the spoken Word...and in our spoken words. I pray often lately against defeated speech, against life-less speech. May our house and yours be overflowing with life-giving words this week...and enjoy a mocha while you're at it! ;)
